SCAP 2017: Receiving an Invitation to Present in Singapore Conference for Applied Psychology

Receiving a prestigious invitation to present in SCAP17, Singapore Conference on Applied Psychology.  I will be presenting  Psychological Well-being in Philippine Corporations. The findings in my study show a strong and significant correlation among perceived stress, job satisfaction, and participation in health and well-being programs with Employee Psychological Well-being. Further, job satisfaction interacts significantly with perceived stress to have a positive impact on employee well-being.

These insights are significant to human resource practitioners who look for ways to increase employee well-being as it is positively correlated to work engagement and employee productivity.

Why are Female Friendships are Complicated feat

COSMO: Why are Female Friendships are Complicated

In this article for Cosmopolitan Philippines November issue, I comment on the intricacies of relationships between women.

Female friendships are challenging because they are built on layers upon layers of female issues: competition, discrimination, cultural restraints on what women can and cannot do; how women should behave. Lack of honesty complicates relationships amongst women — because of  cultural ideals on acceptable behavior, women tend to hide feelings of anger, frustration, irritation from women friends. As a result, so much of what must be said remains unsaid, unrecognised tension festers into passive-aggressive actions. Honesty is such an expensive commodity yet very necessary for authentic relationships. It may not be possible to become vulnerable in all relationships. However, choosing whom to trust and opening up to them of our feelings and sentiments makes us feel less alone and more connected with life.

POWERFUL WOMEN BOSSES

COSMO: Powerful Women Bosses

Along the way of developing a evidence-based program for women in the workplace, get to read much research done on gender issues in the corporate space. Despite the years of advancement, achievement , and plethora of work by women, its sad to see how many remain out of the spotlight because they are afraid to shine.

Resourcing as gender issues expert for the workplace at Cosmopolitan Magazine May 2017 issue, I have identified 8 traits to be a great boss that will show ‘gravitas’:

  1. Be decisive and take control: have the ability to reign in situations, spark action, and assume responsibility. You don’t have to be the loudest in the room to be heard. You must be sincere, genuine, know who you are and parlay that to the company culture.
  2. Be supportive and cooperative: A good and effective leader is not a dictator. She works hand in hand with the team and embodies the organisation’s values.
  3. Be a good communicator: know how to influence people. Have good communication skills. No matter how hard you work, if people do not like you, you are bound to fail.
  4. Be Creative: think of innovative ways to solve problems. See problems from different perspectives.
  5. Be Organised:  Balance your work with building relationships. Choose projects well and choose the correct team mates.
  6. Be Adaptable: learn to cope well with setbacks. Adjust to the situation
  7. Be Analytical: think beyond the current plan. think long term
  8. Be enterprising and performing: If you want the position, don’t be shy about it. Then, be willing to work at it.
